It is crazy to think that we only have 4 more days to sleep in our house as a family before the season starts again. What is even crazier is to know that we only have four more days TOTAL in this house as a family! We decided about a week ago that we are going to sell our house and build a new house about 20 minutes away. We like to wait until the last minute to make our decisions! Ha ha! (Which was true for this house too -- we signed the papers a week before spring training started three years ago!)
Now for those of you who know, we moved into this house brand new. We got to pick out all the flooring, cabinets, paint colors - everything! So why are we moving??? Well that's a really good question. There are a lot of reasons. First, we have had SO many issues with this house. Now we know that we are going to have to do repairs on a house over the years -- but we were starting to repair things that shouldn't need fixing. Our thermostat doesn't work properly and won't heat half of the house. For those of you who have spent the night in our guest room, you know how cold it gets in there. And it took us forever to figure out why....but our thermostat is wired incorrectly. Our electric in our kitchen island trips all the time and we have had multiple electricians out to look at it....and they can't fix it. Our dishwasher leaks. The carpets need repair already. The craftsmanship is suspect. We just are not impressed. While we know all of those things could be replaced....we worry what else we will find over the years. We really have only "lived" in our house 8 months. So it is frustrating to say the least. Second, they started construction behind our house and there are about 200 lots that are going to be built. We are ready to be done with construction. Last week we had four cement trucks just hang out outside our house. Plus 3 out of the 4 models that they will be building are two story houses. The lot directly behind our house to the right is elevated 5 feet -- so a two story house plus an extra five feet above us would be a GIANT eye sore!! And it would block all the mountain views we have in our back yard. Now we could get lucky and only have the one story build back there, but if it is a two story we would have a much harder time selling this house down the road. Not to mention...no privacy. And our street has become the main street to get to those houses -- so we are going to have a lot of extra traffic passing in front of our house now. Third, we have gained a lot of equity in our house of the past few years. We got really lucky with the market and have actually made money on our house -- which not a lot of people can say. So we don't have to take any money out of pocket to get the new house. Fourth, we are about a mile from a high school. We initially didn't think that would be a big deal, but we see kids on our street smoking and racing their cars around the corners all the time. Not something we want while we have young kids at home.
So that all being said, we decided to just get out while we can! While it sounds totally crazy, we just think it is the best thing for us right now. So....where are we moving?? We are moving into a gorgeous community about 20 minutes away. The development is higher up in the foothills so it is more hilly and has more pine trees -- it feels like we are in the mountains. The house is a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath and around 3200 square feet. (Our house right now is a 5 bedroom, 3 bath 3200 square feet). So it is really similar in size, with bigger bedrooms and a bigger great room. It has a view of the mountains from the back yard - which we love! And the best part is no one can build behind us! The houses are built very well by a local builder here in Reno. The owner actually does the final walk through to make sure you are completely satisfied. The community we are moving to has a golf course, club house, workout facility, huge pool with a water slide, restaurants, bars, etc. In the summer they have a farmers market too. Plus they have lots of social events and stuff for kids to do - like basketball leagues, father-daughter dances, and lots of other things. So that will be really fun once we are done with baseball and can enjoy all of those things year round! :)
So long story short - we only have four more days!! Crazy! Here is a picture of our lot! Can't wait! It should be done in July at the latest! :)
Awesome! We wait until the last minute to do everything too-must be a baseball thing. I think we like the challenge of having to do everything quick bc we are used to it (and so good at it)- that's my theory congrats!
