It took us nearly 6 hours to get from Playa de Hermosa to Arenal. On the way we stopped a couple times to get food and stretch our legs. I took pictures of the little hole in the wall restaurants we stopped in. The first one was literally on the side of the road in a little town. The woman at the front counter did not speak any English so we did our best to order in spanish. And between the 6 of us we were pretty convinced that she understood what we wanted...6 chicken tacos and 2 chicken burritos. Easy enough. Well we received two fried chicken breasts with tortillas and 6 taquitos. Who knows...but the food was amazing and the ambiance at the restaurant was exactly what you would expect from a little tiny family owned restaurant.
Then about two more hours into our trip we stopped a German Bakery. Hmmm?? German bakery in Costa?? That's exactly why we stopped...just a little curious. The whole place was completely geared toward the American tourist. Everything was in English, there were clean bathrooms, a cute little store and lots of "knick-knacks" on the wall. Think of it as a Costa Rica TGIFridays that only sells pastries and coffee. But it was still very tasty and nice little break from the pot holes! :)
