Jace, our little patient, made it through his first surgery. Phew! I'm so glad that it is over...I have been dreading it for weeks. We arrived a couple hours early yesterday morning so that we could fill out paper work and talk to the doctors. He couldn't eat or drink anything and we were worried that he would be miserable, but he didn't seem to really mind and just played on Chris' ipad until they called us back. Then, we kissed him good bye and the anesthesiologist took him back to go under. The hardest part was watching them walk away with him crying....I was definitely a little teary eyed. While they were repairing his hernia, they ran into one small hiccup. Because the hernia was so big, Jace's testicle (sorry tmi) never dropped all the way. When he was born, one hadn't dropped all the way (which I guess is pretty common in boys). And our pediatrician had said that it had finally made it's way to where it was supposed to be, but I guess not!! So they had to make another incision to fix that too. So instead of one procedure, Jace had two! While the recovery is the same for both...he will probably be in a little bit more pain, but they said it will be sore for a few days and then he should start feeling much better! He has internal stitches in both areas that will dissolve on their own in a few weeks.
In order to do the procedure they numbed Jace from the waste down and his legs were still numb for 4-6 hours after his surgery! When he woke up he was not only disoriented from the surgery, but also confused because he couldn't feel his legs. It was pretty hard to calm him down initially...so I'm really glad that we were there when he woke up. After about 30 minutes they let us leave. We carefully placed him in his car seat and started the two hour drive down to our spring training home. It actually worked out great that we had a long drive so that we could keep Jace off his feet. When we got home we just put him in the stroller and went for an hour long walk just to be on the safe side. By the time we got back, it had been more then five hours since his surgery so we let him walk. At first he was super wobbly, but he figured it out and was playing with his toys like he normally does!
Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers! It was so nice knowing we had our family and friends thinking about our little man. Hopefully he will recover without any problems and will be back running around in no time! Here's a picture of me and the little man this morning....he still has a smile on his face!

So glad to hear it went well and he is recovering nicely :-)
