Last week while the team was on the team, I had a great weekend with three other wives on the team. We spent 4 days at Ashley's condo in Virginia. We spent most of the weekend relaxing, shopping and laying by the pool. It was so nice. We even got dressed up one night and went to a nice dinner at the country club where Ashley lives. It was so fun!
One of the days we made the 45 minute drive to Washington DC. We only had one day, so we decided to take one of the double decker bus tours. It basically takes you to all the major monuments and you can choose to get off the bus or just leisurely ride along on the 1:30 minute tour. We got off the tour at the Washington Monument and took pictures there and then walked down to the WWII memorial and Lincoln Memorial. There will be stories and pictures of those in separate blogs in the next couple days! :)
We spent most of our time at the Holocaust Museum. I was actually really anxious to see everything, but as soon as we walked in the door you could just feel the mood change. The story is awful. And the exhibits are great, but so sad. There was one room that was just filled with leather shoes that were found at one of the concentration camps from individuals that had been killed. It was horrible, but definitely worth seeing.
After walking around the monuments and museums we were exhausted. Not to mention, it was 95 degrees outside! We decided to ride the double decker around to some of the other sites, including the White House. We were so tired of walking and we knew we didn't have time to take a tour or anything...so we decided we were just going to stay on the bus and get a picture of the white house. But unfortunately, you can't see the White House from the road!! So we completely missed seeing it!! The closest picture we have of the white house is the picture below of me pointing at it from afar! So disappointing, but all the more reason to go back again.
There were so many amazing museums and tours available there. And most of them are free. It would be easy to spend an entire week there going to everything, so hopefully in the future I will get the chance to go back. And all four of us girls made a promise that if we are all in Columubus next year (and hopefully were not!) that we will have to make a repeat trip next year.
