Spring training started this past Tuesday for Chris and the other Tampa Bay pitchers and catchers. They will all be there for four days before the rest of the position players arrive on Saturday. Chris likes this time, especially this year, because it gives him a chance to learn the pitches that each pitcher has. He's only got about 30 new pitchers to learn! Ha ha! He also gets a chance to really focus on his catching skills...throwing to second, blocking balls, receiving balls. All the fundamentals!
Then once the whole team gets here they will work on hitting and Chris will get to work on his defense in the infield and outfield. Even when games start, they still have practice in the mornings. Then there's the travel...some of the teams are two or more hours away! So some spring training days can start at 7am and Chris won't get home until 8pm! And he's normally worn out, is in bed by 9pm and then starts it all over the next day! It's a long couple months, but definitely gets them ready for the season!
I'm excited to see Chris play again...and I'm excited to take Jace to his first baseball game (of many!!). Let the count down begin...only 10 more days!
