The next 60 days!

A blog by Chris!

This picture pretty much sums it up.  Unfortunately, I came down with quite the little injury.  For those of you who don't already know, I strained my oblique pretty bad last Tuesday.  I have a grade 3 oblique strain.  So you think grade 3, oh that can't be too bad, except that the scale only goes to 3.  Grade 3 oblique strains mean that the muscle is torn off the bone and requires a lot of rest for the healing process. The doctor told me that the muscle will eventually heal back to the bone, it's just going to take time.  Surgery would do nothing to help and would make the injury weaker in the long run.  For the next 60 days, I'm completely out of baseball activities and am now the best cheer leader the Mariner's have.  Most of you who know me know that I am a pretty active guy and I'm having a really hard time just sitting still.

This week has been especially rough because I have missed my first ever road trip.  While it sucks being away from baseball, fortunately I get to hang out with Kellie and Max all day and help with what I can do around the house.  When the team is on the road I go to our rehab coordinator's physical therapy office once a day.  While I'm there, I ride a stationary bike for 15 minutes and then ice and stem my oblique.  That's it, literally.  I drive 20 minutes away to rehab and then come home and sit back down on the couch.  Obviously this sounds like no fun, and let me be the first to tell you it isn't.  I would much rather be out there cheering my guys on or at least standing in the out field during the BP.  I've never wanted to actually stand through all four groups of BP so bad.  Ha ha!

Lucky for me, this is going to be an opportune time to get really good at "Call of Duty."  And now, I figure if I can't play baseball, I can play my baseball video game, MLB 2K11!  I can play as myself (they actually have me as a player on there) and continue to ever improve my batting average even if it is only virtually!  :)  So if you'll please excuse me, I have a really busy day ahead of me.  I plan on playing the LA Angels and Jared Weaver is even nastier on the video game.  I will send out updates on my oblique and batting average in the weeks to come.
