Well the Max saga continues. This poor dog can't catch a break. He got kennel cough about three weeks ago and the vet warned us that his immune system would be weak until he was completely over his sickness. Well, apparently that was very true. About a week after his cough stopped, he started getting green gunk in his right eye. It looked miserable...like the dog version of pink eye. So we took him to the vet and found out he had conjunctivitis. We had to give him three drops a day of some medicine. This was the look we got from him when we got home from the vet....the first time.

| My eye hurts...you better give me some extra lovin! |
Well the same night we got home from the vet for his eye issue, we had a rude awakening at 2:30am. This poor guy had the worst case of puppy flu ever. He had the chills and just wanted to cuddle next to one of us. It was so sad. He got sick again at 5:30am and then again at 8:30am! Without being too graphic, let's just say we ended up cleaning a lot of different fluids out of our carpet throughout the night. Needless to say, we were so worried about our little buddy by the morning. So we took him to the vet, again. This time the verdict was worse. Max had a parasite in his stool called Giardia. It is common in the state of Washington and can be caught from standing water or feces (yum.) We figured Max must of caught it from running around the huge field outside our apartment. We had to give him a pill morning and night, a pepto-bismol like white substance in the morning and change his food. Even worse, he was contagious to other dogs and humans. So no more play dates with the dogs in the apartment complex and Chris was on poop duty for a week...we didn't want to chance that I would catch it with the pregnancy and everything. And even worse, the vet said we should avoid the place we think he caught it for a month!!! A month?!?!?! Doesn't he know that the field is Max's playground, his favorite place ever, the place where we take him to burn some serious energy??? Very sad day. Here is a picture of the poor guy when we got home...he was miserable!!

Uhhhhhhhhh! I don't feel good! :(
With no field, no birds and no doggy friends, Chris and I decided that we would have to walk him everyday. So every day for about the past week we have been walking Max three miles a day. Well apparently it isn't enough to get out all of his energy because lately he has started to become a little destructive. The other day I brought home a paper bag from the mall and he ripped it to shreds. Luckily the only victim in the first attack was a bottle of face wash that he punctured repeatedly. Yesterday, the same thing. We came home and Max has destroyed this box of Duraflame logs (we bought a fire pit to make Smores with our doggy friends). Check out these pictures! I guess while Max is quarantined from the field we are going to have to up the miles. Today we went 5 miles...we will see if it helps!! |
