The Dog Days of Summer

It is officially August, a tough time in minor league baseball.  We've entered the last month of the season and guys are tired, hot, and fighting off injuries.  Here in North Carolina, the days are typically over 90 degrees with at least 50% humidity.  That alone can wear these guys out, but on top of it they have played over 100 games already and most of them are waiting/hoping to get the call that they are heading to the big leagues.  It's discouraging to still be in the minors in August, but the possibility of a September call-up keeps these guys, including Chris, heading to the field every day, eating the same food in a club house that is much too small for 30 guys, and playing their hearts out.

We just had one of our last off days of the season and it just reminds us of what we are missing at home.  We spent the day laying by the pool, having a few beers with friends and BBQing steak and corn on the cob.  Ahh, summer.  Jace enjoyed our pool day too!  He loved "swimming" around the pool with Chris and hanging out with all the other guys on the team.  About half of the team was there with their wives and kids.  It was a lot of fun.  Here's a picture of Jace eating his lunch with Chris at the pool. We bought him these little pouches of food...and he loves them!  He sucks the food right out of the pouch, which makes it quick and easy for us to feed him when we aren't at home.  I use these a lot at the games too.

Eating with dad!

Here's a better picture of the little food pouch....seriously, the best thing ever!
While we love our "baseball family" nothing compares to enjoying the summer with our family and friends back home.  It's really hard to be away from the people we love over half the year, but it makes us cherish the time we do get to see them.  Let the count down begin...only 31 days left of the season.  Either we will be coming home or heading to Tampa....and honestly I wouldn't be sad with either option.  :)
