I'm sure by now everyone has heard that Lebron James' decision to leave the Cleveland Caviliers after 7 years to go play for the Miami Heat. Well we found out last night during a rain delay at Huntington Park. It was almost too perfect. During the bottom of the 6th inning it started raining like crazy and forced the game into a rain delay. The grounds crew quickly covered the field with the tarp just in time to protect the field from the huge puddles that were already forming. But it actually seemed to be a blessing in disguise because the rain delay started about 10 minutes before Lebron made his big announcement. And obviously since we are so close to Cleveland, everyone in the stadium wanted to know what was going to happen. So of course, to pass the time, the media guys put ESPN on the scoreboard and played the audio through the loud speaker. It was actually really cool to watch it live at the ball park. All of the fans stuck around, lining the top of the stadium to hear his decision. When he finally said he was heading to Miami the whole place started to boo! Everyone in Ohio hates that he is leaving. Not only because he is the first all-star that Cleveland has had in years on any of their pro teams, but because they have calculated that the city of Ohio will lose, get this, billions of dollars in revenue!! It is amazing that one person can bring that type of economic stability to a city!
After we heard his decision many of the fans left....maybe because they were so mad about what they just heard, or maybe because they figured that the rain would just be too relentless. They made a good decision because about 20 minutes later, after Chris drew a rain turtle outside of the dugout (basically preforming a rain dance), it started to rain harder and the game was cancelled. Not only did the Clippers lose that game 3-to-2, but they also lost Lebron. Sad, sad day!
