5 Months Old!

What a difference a month makes!  Jace has changed so much this month.  He is so much more interactive then he used to be.  If he's sitting on our lap, he is constantly grabbing at things....our coffee cup, a water bottle, a toy, my hair, the string on the end of a sweatshirt...anything!  And once it's in his hand, it's in his mouth!  He is also moving a lot more.  He rolls both ways (back to front and front to back) and will even twist himself in a circle when he is laying on his stomach.  It's his attempt at crawling.  Ha ha!

He babbles a lot more and even started to giggle.  He loves looking at faces...especially his own in the mirror.  He is getting so much stronger and bigger each day...it's amazing to watch!!  He is also more attentive when he is awake.  He is constantly watching us, playing or inspecting his hands or a toy.  Here are some pictures of the lil man and some more info about this past month!  :)

Height (inches):  26 inches (1/2 inch longer then 3 weeks ago)

Weight:  16 lbs, 2 oz (12 oz. heavier then three weeks ago)

Eyes:  Blue

Hair:  Reddish-brown

Clothes:  He's wearing all 6 month old clothes and pjs now.  We might have to get him some 9 month old pj's soon because the ones he has now are getting a little short!

Firsts this month:
First time wearing sunglasses (03/28/12)
First time going to the beach (03/28/12 - pictures in an upcoming post)
First time in North Carolina (04/02/12 - 5 states so far this year)
First hair cut (04/07/12)
First Easter (04/08/12)
First time sleeping without his swaddle (04/13/12)

Likes:
Jumping in his bouncer
Twisting in a circle on his belly
Sucking on anything...everything goes into his mouth
"Raspberries" on his stomach...it makes him giggle every time
Music
Bath time...still one of his favorite times of the day!
Looking in the mirror at himself...it makes him smile
Sophie the giraffe...best baby toy ever!  It's the perfect size for him to hold and really soft for teething.

Dislikes:
Being held down in his car seat....he has started straining to lean up against the straps!
Sitting for too long...after sitting at the baseball games for a while I have to get up and walk around
Being tired...he still needs/loves his naps!
Skyping....every time we have tried to skype with family or friends he cries!  I have no idea why!

Recognizing his name:  Jace has started to look at us when we say his name.  It could just be the sound of our voices, but I'm convinced he's learning his name!  Ha ha!  If he's playing I'll say his name and he'll look around the room until he finds me and then smiles.  It's like a little game of "I found you."  Pretty cute.

Sleep:  Jace has always been a really good sleeper, but a couple weeks ago he started waking himself up in the middle of the night.  He wasn't crying or anything, he was just breaking out of his swaddle.  After about a week of constantly going back into his room and re-swaddling him, we decided to just break him of the swaddle all together.  I was so worried the first night was going to be miserable since he's not used to sleeping with his arms out, but he did great.  He woke up a couple times, played with his hands and then fell back to sleep.  He still sleeps in a sleep sack that wraps him up snug, but now his arms are free.  Success!

Grocery shopping:  This month I have changed the way I grocery shop.  Now I always carry Jace in the baby carrier facing out.  It works out great for me because I don't have to try to balance the car seat in the shopping cart and even better, people don't touch him!!  If he's in the car seat I swear people think it is an open invitation to come up and touch him...it drives me nuts!  But when he's in the carrier people will comment that he's cute, but they don't touch him!  Plus I think it's more fun for him to look around and see what's going on.  It's a win, win!

I love how chubby he looks in this picture!

He is sucking on everything...especially his hands!
Happy boy!

Snuggling with gramma!

Grandpa Burt's so funny!

Tummy time!
First day at the beach!

Happy Easter!

What's up?

So happy after he wakes up!
Learning to sit up by himself!
Hanging out with daddy and the bull before the game!

  1. He's getting so big! I love that little giraffe. It's become such a popular toy - maybe Mochi and Max need their own :-)
